I’ll start this ride with a converstation I had with a friend tonight. We both had a pretty simular church upbringing, causing trouble in youth group, but always going to church. I was never rebellious, I just asked a lot of questions, then got frustrated when no one could give me an answear.
When I was exposed to the reality and purposes of the Holy Spirit- a lot of things made more sense. I’ll explain this more in posts to come.
Instead I’m going to mention the conversation we had. We got talking about our different views on the “end times” and what we believe the role today’s Church has in the Kingdom of God.
We started talking about Kingdom music. Here’s my thoughts. Obviously Kingdom music is “worship music” since that is pretty much what music was created for and how it is used in the Bible. But I don’t see Kingdom music looking music like the typical Sunday contemporary worship service. I actually see it looking a lot more like a stoner jam band or techno rave. The crowd, the dancing, the experiance.
Just replace the drugs with the power of the Holy Spirit. Instead songs focused on… whatever they’re usually focused- they focused on Heaven.
So how does that differ from our current worship music?
Today a lot of churches are getting stuck between a rock and hard place. They are trying to replace old hymns and organs with guitars and drums. They have all their theological reasons for doing so- but it usually comes down to wanting more people to come to their church (or trying to provide for last year’s building project). Once they start to establish a more “contemporary” style worship, not only is it then obsoulete and not contemporary anymore- but the trend supposedly goes back to traditional hymns.
Well with Kingdom music the difference is the Holy Spirit.
What happens when the drugs are taken out of the music? It becomes commericial crap… and only people who like crap listen to it.
It actually seems that a health conscious society is a music-deprived society.
Which is happening to today’s worship music. So lets stop spending out time figureing out the next trend, and spend that time in prayer, in the Spirit, and in worship.
Misty Edwards is a revolutionary Kingdom worship’r. I highly recommend you checking out this article and videos.
